Merlin is an experienced carpenter with over 30 years of direct experience in all phases of light and heavy commercial construction, as well as single family and multiple family and residential construction.  His specialty is building luxury custom homes, cabinetry and fine finish work. He is an award winning contractor with the Parade of Homes as well as his historical renovation of “The Pines” which has also been placed on the Utah State and National Historical Registry of historic places. 

He is past president of the Salt Lake Homebuilders Association as well as the Utah Homebuilders Association and held numerous chair positions for the association and served as a member of the State’s legislative committee with regard to professional standards and continuing education, law affecting private property rights and interaction with various Utah legislative members. He is also serving his second term with the Lien Recovery Fund Board, for the Utah Department of Public Licensing (DOPL).

Merlin has also been involved with helping the homeless in Utah as a board member of "The Road Home" since 2003.
